Artemis

Swedish owner Torbjorn Tornqvist’s first year on the MedCup saw him crowned champion under the guidance of three times America’s Cup winner Russell Coutts. A first regatta in the class in 2006 at the Copa del Rey on a chartered boat ignited Tornqvist’s desire to compete at the top level and since then he has consistently put in place all the key components for winning teams.

After winning in 2007, in 2008 perhaps they had too many different changes in the team and never quite got to grips with their boat. Coutts was also absent from Artemis in 2008, sailing just one regatta with Larry Ellison on sister-ship USA 17, but he rejoined Artemis for the 2008 TP52 World Championship in which the team prolongated the Owner Driver Trophy title.

Torbjorn Tornqvist’s experienced team, Artemis is well known for their success in the Transpac 52 and RC44 Classes, having won the TP52 MedCup Circuit and TP52 World Championships in 2007. It was a natural progression for Artemis to enter into the Louis Vuitton Trophy, which includes five regattas around the world over the course of the next year. The first Louis Vuitton Trophy takes place in Nice (France) in November 2009, followed by Auckland (NZ) in March 2010 and La Maddalena (Italy) in May 2010.

Artemis has a solid foundation in place, with strong leadership and a clear vision. Under the direction of world-renowned sailor Paul Cayard and management of Jared Henderson (Team Manager), Artemis has a solid foundation in place, with strong leadership and a clear vision. Entering into the Louis Vuitton Trophy, Artemis has expanded and strengthened the team by adding Terry Hutchinson (Helmsman) and Morgan Larson (Tactician), both of whom have had impressive results in various classes, most recently with TP52 Quantum Racing.
