Swedish owner Torbjorn Tornqvist’s first year on the MedCup saw him crowned champion under the guidance of three-time America’s Cup winner Russell Coutts (NZL). His first regatta in the class at the 2006 Copa del Rey on a chartered boat ignited Tornqvist’s desire to compete at the top level and since then he has consistently put in place all the key components for winning teams. After winning in 2007, in 2008 perhaps they had too many different changes in the team and never quite got to grips with their Reichel-Pugh design. 

In 2009 Paul Cayard (USA) joined the team and may have been the catalyst for a measure of consistency which saw them regularly challenging to win regattas and finishing third overall. Tornqvist and the Artemis team also compete on two other major global sailing series.
