Matador

One of the three new boats on the Circuit, Alberto Roemmers’ new Matador will be one of the teams to watch in 2009. With the previous boat they suffered a little in the 2007 season with too many crew changes and took a while to get the best from what was then a new boat. They did win Copa del Rey in 2007. Last season – 2008 – they were one of the slow burn success stories, building steadily to podium at every regatta in the second half of the season, with two second places and a third.

Typically the Matador team seem to like a challenge, they seemed to excel when it was difficult. Perhaps one contributing factor is that this is a longstanding team who have been together for many years, indeed some core crew members have only ever sailed with the Rommers’ Matador or Alexia crews.

Skippered and run by Guillermo Parada, the new Matador was launched mid March and will have had a good work up before the first 2009 Audi MedCup Regatta.

Skipper and helmsman: Guillermo Parada (ARG)
Key crew members: Navigator, Steve Hayles (GBR); Tactician, Francesco Bruni (ITA); Trimmers, Simon Fry (GBR) and Jon Gunderson (NZL).
