Quantum Racing
Quantum Racing (USA) set a new standard winning the 2008 Audi MedCup Circuit and in 2009 finished runners up to Emirates Team New Zealand. For 2010 they have updated their 2008 build Botin Carkeek design with a new sleeker deck profile and made some structural improvements. Changes to the crew line up include Britain’s Adrian Stead, past Farr 40 world champion, as tactician and Kevin Hall, who won the TP52 series with Emirates Team New Zealand, as navigator.
Their winning strategy in 2008 was about constant improvements, focusing on the end game and sheer hard work. 2009’s work ethic was no less rigorous but the game was moved up a notch, and tiny errors robbed them of some of their high standards of consistency. Quantum Racing, with Terry Hutchinson (USA) as skipper-helm will be podium contenders in 2010.
Quantum Racing originally had a strong presence in the inaugural 2005 MedCup, as Lexus Quantum, taking a close second place to Pisco Sour. Some of that core team were involved with the Botín & Carkeek-designed second-placed Warpath in 2006. Warpath became Doug de Vos’ Windquest on the 2007 MedCup Circuit, sailing with Terry Hutchinson (USA) after he had fulfilled his role as tactician for Louis Vuitton Cup winners and America’s Cup Challengers Emirates Team New Zealand.
