Synergy

Synergy (RUS) were one of the most improved teams in 2009 thanks to the combination their years on the Circuit paying off and Cameron Dunn (NZL) as tactician, Chris Main (AUS) on mainsheet and Francesco Mongelli (ITA) as navigator.

They proved they have the skills and speed to challenge for podium finishes at regattas and are looking to step up more in 2010. As a team they have been out competing at other global events.

Synergy started out in 2006 with a sister-ship to the Botin & Carkeek Warpath and have made progress up the rankings since. In 2008 they purchased the former USA 17 and have shown good speed and strong tactical sailing since.

'SYNERGY Russian sailing team' project.

Sailing team «Synergy» is a long-term project created with the help of private means of a group of Russian businessmen in 2004. Love for the sea and passion for sailing have become the motivation for taking part in a project, and the main goal has been a creation of professional Russian-speaking sailing crew, able to compete with the most experienced teams of the world on equal grounds. The investors of the project are Pavel Gorelov, Vladimir Senko, Vladimir Smyshlyaev, Mikhail Tuzov, Roman Trotsenko and well-known Russian politician, businessman and public figure – Valentin Zavadnikov who is the crew captain.

Team development steps.

- To achieve the set goal evolutional way of team development has been chosen by the project investors. By the end of 2004 the process of team forming had been completed, the evidence of which was 2nd-place won on board of chater yacht in a famous regatta of the Mediterranean - Rolex Middle Sea Race.
- In April of 2005 the first own team’s yacht was launched in the water. It was 40-foot-long criusing yacht built in Italy of the Grand Soleil project. On board of this yacht «Synergy» crew started 2005 with the victory in a prestigious international regatta «XXII Trofeo Accademia Navale», which took place in April in Livorno. For six months of 2005 season «Synergy» sailing team has covered the distance of 2385 nautical miles between the race destinations, took part in 11 the most prestigious international regattas and won 3 first and 7 prizes.

Team's achievements in this period of time >>>

- When the resourses of the first yacht were exhausted, the project participants carried out the detailed analysis of the existing situation in the world-wide sailing sports. The planet elite of yachting are the America’s Cup competition and round-the-world regatta Volvo Ocean Race. «Synergy» project investors set America’s Cup as their goal as the most dynamic and interesting contest, each lap of which attracts intent attention of the public. The closest class of yachts to those participating in these races was and is the hi-technological yacht class «Transpac 52».

TP52 and MedCup.
There are only several dozens of these yachts in the world so far, the interest for their competition is great on part of the audience and mass-media, because the most professional and experienced sailing teams take part in them. In Transpac 52 class the size of the yacht, its crew and sports characteristics, casing and sail materials do not differ much from the yachts, which take part in «America’s Cup». Designers of Transpacs 52 use the same results of preliminary researches, modeling, and designing. The same materials, formulas and equipment. It is possible to produce these yachts which are equipped with hi-technological facilities and take part in yacht building only on several shipyards in the world.
TP52 participate in the races with true time, without various formulas of time estimation after the finish which makes the sailing difficult to understand. If you crossed the finish line the first, - you are the first and no one else. The TP52 class of yachts after the victories in the series of races with the other types of yachts is considered to be the fastest yachts in the world.
That’s why the new yacht of «Synergy» since the middle of 2006 has become the yacht of this class, designed by Shaun Carkeek.

2006. «Synergy» Team joined the main yacht races of «Transpac 52» class - MedCup 2006 only from the third lap. Despite this fact, in the general record based on the result of the whole cycle of regattas it found itself in the middle of the list of the strongest crews of Europe. That year the team ended its season winning 1-st place overall in Rolex Malta Trophy (coast lap of Rolex Middle Sea Race), Malta, 17-18 of October.

2007. In January-March «Synergy» took part in three regattas along the shores of the USA (Florida). The return to Europe showed that the sailing to America and competition in winter period proved their value: the total place of the team in Breitling MedCup 2007 – was 13-th.

For the period of regattas along the coasts of the USA in January-March of 2008 leading yachtsmen of the world have been involved in participating in trainings of the “Synergy” team. As a result:

2008. 3-d place - Acura Miami Grand Prix 2008.
Having succeeded in winter period – three regattas along the coasts of the USA (state Florida) – in Miami, in Key-West and 170-mile race in Fort Lauderdale in Key West. Since April the team took part in regattas in Europe, including Audi MedCup 2008.

The project participants made a decision to stay in «Transpac 52» type of yachts as the most modern and technologically challenging. Thus the team has got a new yacht of this type in the summer of 2008. The result of the season was the 6th place in TP52 World Championship.

In the winter of 2009 Synergy sailing team on it’s first Transpac 52 took part in two regattas in the USA. The results were: 3rd place in “Fort Lauderdale to Key West Race” and 3rd place in “Acura Miami Grand Prix 2009”. And at the same time the new Synergy Transpac 52 was being prepared for the summer season in Europe – it was under work on yacht design modification taking into account the newest achievements in the theory of sailing, which significantly enhances the racing characteristics.

In 2009 Synergy won 4th place in the final event of Audi MedCup 2009 and 4th place in TP52 World Championship as well. During the events Synergy used to finish first in several races.

Synergy Russian sailing team is a preferential shareholder of WSTA and is taking part in Louis Vuitton Trophy since November 2009.
