Race 1:

So Mean Machine win the first race of the Breitling Regatta, moving well in these relatively gentle conditions, leading round the first mark, second was Mutua Madrilena, Matador, Artemis, Bribon, Tau Ceramica Andalucia, Platoon, Cristabella and CXG on a photo finish together, ONO in 10th, Caixa Galicia in 10th, Quantum rescue an 11th – just – from Rusal Synergy in 12th, Valars, 14th El Desafio and in 15th Audi Q8.

And a gun to gun win for Mean Machine gives them a confidence boost in these modest conditions. Ray Davies and Tom Dodson won the left early on with a good start by Peter de Ridder and that was enough to get them across to the right to cross Vasco Vascotto on Mutua Madrilena.

So that race shortens Quantum’s overall lead on the Audi MedCup Circuit to just 0.2 of a point ahead of Bribon, with Artemis one point behind Quantum in third.

Race 2:

At the windward mark second time around it is Matador three boat lengths ahead of Quantum Racing, third is Platoon, fourth is Rusal Synergy, fifth is Mean Machine, sixth Audi Q8, seventh Cristabella, eighth Tau Ceramica Andalucia, ninth El Desafio, tenth CXG, eleventh Bribon, twelfth Valars, then Artemis, Mutua Madrilena and ONO.

So the provisional order on the line, Matador, Quantum, Platoon, Rusal Synergy, Mean Machine, Cristabella, Audi Q8, Tau Ceramica Andalucia, CXG Caixa Galicia, Bribon, Artemis, Mutua Madrilena, Desafio, ONO and Valars. We think Mutua Madrilena may have a protest against Matador.

Warning signal for the third race is 1655hrs, third race is planned.

Race 3:

At the first WW1 mark it is Mean Machine about 9 seconds up on Quantum Racing, third round was Matador, fourth Bribon +44secs behind, fifth is ONO, sixth Artemis, seventh Cristabella, eighth Mutua Madrilena, ninth Platoon, tenth CXG who had to go nearly head to wind to avoid port tacked Tau Ceramica Andalucia who did their penalty turns, Valars, Rusal, and El Desafio.

And at the leeward mark first time down Mean Machine emerge from the right hand mark with a lead of about 15 seconds on Quantum Racing with Matador in third about the same distance again behind, Bribon are fourth still, ONO hang on to fifth, Artemis are sixth, Cristabella seventh, Mutua Madrilena lose eighth to Platoon, and tenth is Valars just ahead of 11th placed CXG. El Desafio and Audi Q8 having a good race between themselves at the back of the fleet.

At the windward mark second time up the breeze is holding steady at eight knots and Mean Machine lead around the last turning mark of the day with their lead looking much as it was at leeward mark, Quantum in second, Matador in third. If the positions stay the same then that will leave Mean Machine and Matador tied on the same points, but Mean Machine will lead on tie break.

At the finish first place is Mean Machine, second Quantum Racing, third is Matador, fourth is Bribon and then fifth is Artemis. So Mean Machine lead the Regatta Breitling.
